I'm taking Gertrude (that's my Schacht Matchless Spinning Wheel- she can be seen in the pic to the right looking all new and shiny) to Kensington Metro Park Farm Learning Center Spring Festival on Saturday and Sunday to do a spinning demonstration.

I've hand combed a the last of a trash bag full of merino that was very poorly processed into roving. I got the bag of roving for free because it was a neppy, VM-filled mess and the combing process has given me lovely clouds of short fibers that spin well in a modified woolen draw. The waste was tremendous though. I swear there is more waste than usable fiber. I think I'm going to dye the waste which is full of neps and lumps and incredibly short fibers. It would make really good needle felting wool. It can't hurt to make a bunch of clumps of merino in lovely colors for my needle felting friends.

So Saturday, I'm taking along my bag of merino fluff to spin. I guess I'll also take the shawl that's in progress and being made with yarn I've already spun from this wool. It's been pretty chilly these last few days so I hope it will be warm enough to spin comfortably, but I'll take a scarf and some gauntlets to help chase away the chill.

I need to prepare some yarn to sell at the event as well. I've got a few skeins, but not too many. I may have to go down and raid Bumbles to get enough stock to take along. I'm thinking that I'll take it in an old basket for display.
